All-Inclusive vs. Non-All-Inclusive: What’s Cheaper If You Don’t Drink?

by

I have had some people ask me, “If I don’t drink alcohol, is it cheaper for me to stay somewhere other than an all-inclusive?”

The answer is not simple as there are sometimes reasons all-inclusive resorts are not the best option, but here are some of my thoughts:

  1. All-inclusive resorts include many drinks apart from alcohol.
  • Coffee, tea, lemonade, soda, mocktails, and bottled water cost extra at non-all-inclusive properties. The price can add up quickly!
  1. All-inclusive resorts typically have more dining options, activities, and facilities than non-all-inclusive resorts.
  • These are included in the up-front cost versus having to pay for them all separately.
  1. Non-all-inclusive hotels are usually either high end hotels or directly in town.
  • The pricing for food and drinks at the high end properties is typically quite expensive and you need to get a cab to find a more reasonably priced restaurant.
  • The properties that are in the city give the opportunity to walk in search of local dining, but not everyone feels comfortable exploring.
  1. All-inclusive resort restaurants are convenient and offer variety.
  • There should be something to satisfy everyone in your family.
  1. Budgeting–you know what you will be spending upfront.

Even if you don’t drink alcohol, an all-inclusive resort is often still worth the price when you factor in all of the inclusions.  The right choice depends on your travel style, budget, and your goals for your trip.  For many travelers, the simplicity and variety make all-inclusives the easier, more relaxing choice.
